Bare Rumps expands, more so gets some helping hands!

Bare Rumps has been around for nearly two years of selling now (six months before that of testing my product), and boy what a journey it's been! I started off by blogging and sharing my journey, which I will always continue to do. You may even find some of the very first nappies and testers from way back when in this little story book over here, called the Bare Rumps blog. It was a baby tadpole and a tad native, that nativeness is such a beautiful thing when I reflect back on my first posts... Because I guess the excitement was infectious and comes from such heart. Life is just one big work in progress, and my training wheels are only now coming off.

I have breast fed my baby in one hand, while ordering and sourcing material products with the other, gotten up at 5:00am to answer emails before my daughter woke, just so I could have time to concentrate early and fresh, I have and do most nights, stay awake until 1am... 2am sewing beautiful cloth and drawing/dreaming ideas to create beautiful OOAK designs that I happen to put on cloth nappies.

It's been such a big journey for me and I am getting to the point now where I need help. And to be honest, it's been a big journey emotionally to let myself get help. It's something us single mums really need to learn how to be better at.

I need help with the sewing.

I have decided to outsorce my booster design, now they will have been made off-shore in an ethical garnment factory. It is still the same fantastic design, quality material product, and they look exactly the same. The only difference is that the over-locking is nice and tight, so it will wash up much better for years to come. I figure that all my creativity is poured into the actual nappy itself, and that the only creativity in the booster itself is because it's my design LOL! So I can "creatively" afford to hand this job to someone else and focus on my outers. I will still be making the rainbow velour-topped booster at home though, no way I am sending of that precious stuff for someone else to cut!

This gives me a bit more freedom, freedom to make more nappies for my customers with less stress, a quicker turnover, freedom to spend more time with my daughter, to play in the park that little bit longer with her and not worrying about the time it's going to take to get through that mountain of boosters at night, then waking at 6.30am the next day with little. When my daughter was a baby and I was creating it was much easier time-wise, she is turning 3 soon, and frankly she is hard work, and needs my energy. So outsourcing my boosters is the decision I have made that is best for my family.

This is a step I had to make if I wanted Bare Rumps Nappies to be a sustainable journey of mine. I looked into hiring an Australian factory, and it really did not work out finaclally for me, I already receive a undercut hourly rate, and just could not afford to pay the Australian wages. I guess I came to a crossroad of some sort.. And it was either work again full time in the arts, outside my home, or stay at home and create beautiful nappies for beautiful babies. I chose the latter coz let's face it, I want to spend as much time with my daughter while she is a young child and also give a fantastic product. I feel now, I have only just perfected my pattern, and the quality of my work to a high standard and I want to keep going.

I enjoy my work, my customers, and this community. I still have a million OOAK designs in my head, the drive and passion for this business and I do not want to give up for being a better word of being "over worked".
This step helps take a small weight of workload off me, which in turn makes me a better, more efficient person in the studio.

This is a subject in which I want my customers to be aware of, I believe in honesty and integrity being a huge part in business and in life. I have never pretended to be something I am not, nor am I going to start now by "accidentally not mentioning it".

All nappies that will be posted in the future from today onwards, the boosters are outsourced, again, you would not even know if I did not tell you as far as design and quality, they are great boosters because hey! I designed them to hold potentially up for 4 to 5 hours! I am not saying to ever leave them on that long, but it's a good, OK GREAT thing to know that when you leave the house in a cloth nappy they are not going to leak. Thats why I made them built to take on the heavy wetters, good boosters make good cloth nappies in my mind's eye. No use having a pretty if it is not packed with punch.

I hope you still are inclined to follow and support my journey that is Bare Rumps -The modern cloth and understand why I am doing this. Even though it is not a 100% hand made product from me alone, you are still supporting me being a WAHM, and that I am still making the actual nappy 100% on my own and that the booster is my design. Maybe even let out a "yeee haaaa" girl (like Jesse does in the Toy Story movie), you deserve to take a bit of workload off your plate, that would be super cool for me.

I am excited about the future!!

If you feel you need to email me about this subject for what ever reason, please contact me via my 'contact me' tab to create a converation.

Unicorn farting a rainbow! Comes with unicorn poop!

I have often pondered the thought of the origin of rainbows, and this is the only logic explanation in the civilised world of light, laughter, and drumrollllll...Magic!!!

This cute and quirky limited edition comes with a complimentary unicorn poop!

This could possibly be the only time you ever enjoy opening up a nappy to see a fresh poop! And it even smells sooo good!! Kinda like a vanilla and buttercream icecream.

Idea brain child is Jerry Red, and special thanks to the creative director of the unicorn poop is Elaine W, these poops are a decoration and not to be consumed they are in-fact rock hard, and while made of eatable material, I do not recommend it... At all.... Well, we have done stranger things, I hold no responsibility if you break your teeth if for the most oddest of oddest you decide you want to eat a unicorn poop. Na but seriously. don't eat them.

Info from Elaine- Quote- The poos were made and stored in a food safe environment so hypothetically they could be used on top of a cake,

They are made of satin ice fondant, it's primarily sugar and corn syrup. And yes they smell because they were vanilla flavour and buttercream. Yummmoo

Different colored pearl luster dusts give it the shimmer, which is edible, edible sugar flower glue used to stick on food safe non- toxic glitter. The stars are not edible but also stuck on with sugar flower glue

So hypothetically if u took the stars off you could eat the whole poo - although I wouldn't recommend it as you would probably break your teeth and it would just be a mouthful of sugar hahahaha.

Please note- This is not a toy for a small child, they may look bright and pretty to a child, but not my intention for them, they are a ornament for you, so put them somewhere high and safe (I have mine blue-tacked to the upper half of the fridge) put your poop somewhere to remind you of light and laughter!
I mean come on!
It's unicorn poop!
It's bound to make you smile every time you walk past it.
It's my gift to you.

They will go live on the website in the next few weeks, once I have my current work log posted! I will shoot out a newsletter when they go live :) They are a size large Thyla pouch Pattern BR, topped with hand dyed bamboo velour.

I had such a great time creating these little babies, and they are dedicated to all rainbow and unicorn lovers out in the world..You know who you are....Oh and to you smelly Mel.......

Well thats my lunch break over, busy in the studio today in-between being a busy mum.

Lots of bright rainbow sparkly farting unicorn spray!

Hello fello nappy addicts!

Just wanted to touch bace, as to fill you in on some updates, had a pretty whopper wisdom teeth extraction two weeks ago, and been on best rest, I sent out a bulk email as well a few weeks back regarding slight delays, so I think it's pretty common knowledge by now (we know what wild fire this on line nappy business is!) And hope the word got out!

As a few are waiting on the pre orders being posted, two weeks late to be exact. Hang on.. I do not know why I feel the urge to tell you all this, the whole world on my blog that I am late with orders!! I guess I was a nappy buyer for quite some time before stumbling upon becoming a maker, and we just want to be keep in the loop really. So sorry if you have heard this before and your thinking...
 s h u t u p J e r r y..
Or if you did not snag anything from the last pre order stocking and your thinking I do not really care woman...!!!
BUT there is that small chance someone snagged from the pre order that did not get my news letter email, is not friends with me on face book (I update often studio doings on that wall feel free to shoot me a request!) and is at home thinking where in the bleep are my nappies!
See I knew there was logic to doing this blog.

So my update goes like this.

Getting stuck into work again today slow and steady, should be pretty fast pasted around here next week in the studio. Nearly all pre order nappies are done now, just have around 7 left to ebb and sew up which is why I am blogging at 1.ooam in the morning! Tin man and friends is busy coming to life before my very eyes.

Next week onto the customs, which I have ideas flowing, and my sketch book was filled via on bed rest. Oh dear I hope a few of the "lucky dip" custom owners are open minded! Hey I was on strong pain meds last week blame the crazy designs on influence! ;) Na... Nothing to worry about, I am sure I can tweet a few of the designs if they are to far out! That or palm them of to some parents that grew up in the 70s ;) I think I could almost design a nappy with a unicorn farting a rainbow spray and just get away with it to still fly of the shelves ;)

Sorry I have been quiet at late and not my self, just been trying to do my best get better and be a good mummy to! Which to be frankly honest has been tough single handed trying to be on bed rest (pretty savage extraction) trying not to stress about orders, and make dinners and deal with tantrums from a old Leo young lady. Been one of the most testing months of I could say my days from Paige's birth... To be honest I am still feeling pretty lousy, I have a post op infection so thats slowing my recovery down a tad.

I have around 10 emails to get to through the week, they are all custom design emails, and will get to them with replying as I get to each custom, might even shoot a buzz on the phone as thats working pretty good time wise for me at the moment. Just cannot get to them in one hit like I usually do.

Oh and while I am here, the 6 smalls from the pre order I have automatically made a range of mediums in the same design if you need the size upgrade and will email you closer to the 30th to find out your choice.  We know how fast these bubs grow eh. Saves you emailing me :)

Guess what the end of this blog is saying is, I try not to get the old  "I burnt my brecky" Or "my kid is really sick" spiel on my business page.

"My Cats Memphis and Cairo coughed up a hair ball each and I found a paper clip in one of them", kinda post,

lets face it.

I cannot stand seeing it in my news feed! So I try not to do it over on my wall.

But just wanted to let you know why my page has kinda been like a mini ghost town, I am still looking at the stats thought... I see a few people still pop in to look at the gallery! I call them the die hard nappy addicts, You know who you are! It's 12.30am and you have done your rounds of your fav makers before bed. BLESS! I love that.

So I figure if you have gotten this far through this blog then I would like to say with my whole heart-  Thank-you for all  for the understanding through this rough patch for me, your emails, and messages of getting well are truly astounding, some really good people in this cloth community which I am proud to be apart of, the next upload of photos will be pretty cool to spy a huge lot of funky BR nappies and I can show you all my work from the past 8 weeks. Well six really, got a big week ahead of me for the next one.

Apologies on the grammar, it is 1.40am now and ready to hit the sack, but more so I am not really that great at it either. Shrugs.

Oh a little fairy I made this morning, she was a little bright light that fluttered a light on, quite early to I might add.... Lucky she was cute enough not to swat away.
